How to Measure Your Trousers – A Tailored Guide
1. Waist
Button up the trousers and lay them flat on a smooth surface. Gently smooth out any folds or wrinkles. Measure straight across the waistband for a precise fit.
2. Front Rise
With the trousers buttoned, measure from the crotch seam up to the top of the waistband. Ensure the fabric is smooth and flat before measuring.
3. Hip
Measure across the hip area, typically 1.5 inches below the zipper. Keep the fabric flat to capture the true width.
4. Thigh
Start at the crotch seam and measure approximately 1–2 inches below the hip for an accurate thigh width.
5. Length
Lay the trousers flat with both legs aligned. Measure from the top of the waistband down to the hem for total length.
6. Knee
With the fabric flat, measure across the knee at the midpoint of the leg for proper shaping and fit.
7. Inseam
Measure from the crotch seam to the bottom hem along the inside seam. This defines the inner leg length.
8. Leg Opening
Finally, measure straight across the bottom hem of one leg for the leg opening width. Ensure fabric is smooth for accuracy.
